Heart Rate Variability

Although the western world has only started to recognise Heart Rate Variability (HRV) since around 1965, Chinese Medicine has known about it since Wang Shu-Ho (265-317 AD) wrote his work Mo Ching (“Pulse manual/classic”).  His work was based on even earlier findings and describes how the pattern of the heartbeat affects health.  The more regular the beat, the closer to death the patient would be.

HRV is a non-invasive way of analysing the control of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) over the heart.  Many studies have shown this analysis reflects many physiological problems and can be used to identify patients at higher risk with issues such as:

TFT has shown to have an immediate and positive effect on HRV.

The measurement of HRV has become standardised by the Task Force of the European Society of Cardiology and the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (1996).

Optional HRV testing is undertaken at the request of the patient or on the advice of the therapist.
